a "safe country" is any country you can buy travel insurance cheaply. use a separate rider for your watch.
i would wear any watch that is replaceable by my insurer - or i guess an easier motto is: i wear any watch i can afford to lose!
i've been robbed before in malaysia, taiwan and hong kong - so never say never.
but my vintage watches have never been taken as i don't usually wear them for travel...“Watches, no matter how much they cost, are better at telling time than making a person happy.†- Thomas J. Stanley

It is really a individual's comfort level with the country. For instance, I have been robbed and had beer bottles thrown at my windscreen while in the car in Oz before but I still feel comfortable to wear my rollies when i am there...

Hi all,
I went to Hk in Seiko. Last year end went to Taiwan with sub.
Mid year went to Phuket was in my army gift watch. This year end to Japan likely with sub too, these are safe places.
I felt that if you are wearing Rolex than be more careful lah. I told myself never to remove my watch and place aside and attend to other things.
Cheers,

actually i suppose sometimes how u look oso can deter potiental robbers or thugs....
So far for me...no issues at all....been thru bangkok during the chaotic period and came home in 1 piece ....both me and watch are fine....Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak
Courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen

my 10 yr old ellesse watch whenever i travel.
just dont want to attract any unwanted attention regardless where i go.
just want to come back in 1 piece.
don't even want to let them gamble whether real or fake watch and end up with 1 wrist lesser.

i recently spoke to a financial advisor who told me that you can insure your watch for full value when you travel overseas. i just sign up a policy.
for those who are interested in signing up such policy, you can either consult your own financial advisor or pm me for contact. this policy also covers insurance @ home (singapore) which i find it useful.
however, certain conditions need to be fulfill which i shall not elaborate and leave it to the financial advisor.if you have issues with your account, click here for self help and read forum rules here. 90% of your answers can be found in Forum FAQ

For me it depends on where I go. If it is to HK, I will wear a better watch (I may even bring 2 watches) esp if I intend to visit the watch boutiques etc.
For some countries especially in our region, I will wear my cheaper watches. In general, my general travel watch is my Rolex GMT for obvious reasons! His: AP ROO, Hublot BB, PAM 24/29/183/372, Chopard L.U.C 2000/Mille Miglia, Rolex Milgauss 116400 GV/Sub 16610 LV/1680 "Red Sub"/GMT Master 1675/GMT Master II 16760 "FAT LADY"/Seadweller 16600/DSSD 116660, Tudor 94010 "Snowflake"/94200 "BIG Block"/Heritage Chrono/Black Bay, Omega Seamaster 2254.50/2538.20
Hers: AP ROO & AP Millenary, Cartier Santos, Chopard Happy Sports & Cannes Fest, PAM 49, Rolex Explorer1 214270
