Help needed to identify this Rolex
Hi,
Got this Rolex watch 15 years ago and since I am not a watch professional, can anyone help me identify what model is it and which year it was made? Anyone know what's the resale market like for this watch? On the inside of the back casing were words inscribed:
"Rolex. SA 31 victoires
naute Precision
Geneve-Suisse
4152".
Appreciate all your help, thanks!!

the case looks to be in good condition, but i cannot be sure since your pictures not clear at all.
the dial may have been touched, but again, i cannot be sure. you need to set your phone/camera to MACRO mode.
it should say HAUTE PRECISION not NAUTE PRECISION.
if t comes with original buckle, and the case is good, the dial is good, and the movement is good, you're looking at 1.5k onwards. more if it's a gold case (eg, 9ct, not gold-filled/rolled/capped).“Watches, no matter how much they cost, are better at telling time than making a person happy.†- Thomas J. I was told by the seller the dial has been 're-con' and the case is gold but not sure if it's gold plated, filled or any. What does 'super balance' means? Let me see if I can take more clearer pics with my phone camera and post it, sori my digital camera has just broken down. Thanks again guys for all your help.

i can see steel parts making up the watch case... if it's gold (no matter what carat), the entire case is usually all gold. plus, there should be some sort of a gold hallmark (at least 1) somewhere on the case...
the biggest silver "circle" thing in your watch movement (first picture) should say: PATENTED SUPER BALANCE in a circular formation. (it could also say something else, eg, blah PRIMA blah; and if so, please let us know)
movements such as those were not manufactured past the mid 1930s, but the watch could date another 5 or so years from then...
during those times, these watches did not sell as quickly as rolex watches do these days.
the super balance was simply a "better" balance made by rolex. it was streamlined and overcoiled (breguet), compared to other balances of its time. it also features mean timing and balance screws. it does not look like a normal balance, but more like a cog.
in modern day, it doesn't mean much. as for how much it's worth? to be frank, it's worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it.
if you are not in need of money, why not just wipe it clean, and keep it? the price is not going to fall over time.“Watches, no matter how much they cost, are better at telling time than making a person happy.†- Thomas J. Stanley

i might have made a mistake.
your watch might date to around 1940s/50s if it does not have a superbalance... the crown reminds me of 4533s... and if 4152 is indeed the reference number, it seems possible that it could date to the 40s/50s, not the 30s/40s.
until clearer pictures are available, please disregard my replies.“Watches, no matter how much they cost, are better at telling time than making a person happy.†- Thomas J. Stanley

what tiny pics! what's the hallmark in the middle of the caseback?
does it have a crown and "SAR" printed below it?
i'm not into such watches at all, as such, i would only dare say it's an art-deco popluxe rolex tank-style watch.
it appears to be a genuine case to me. the serial, if correct, dates the case back to 1938.
i would date the movement between mid-20s to mid-30s (normally 15 jewels, prima-grade finishing and timing - 17 jewels may mean manufactured for sale in certain markets).
i think these were earlier/older movements meant for ladies' watches that were stuffed into a men's sized case. quite common for many watch companies during that era.
looks re-dialed. price-wise... you'll get as much as someone is willing to pay for it.
your watch is nice. keep it if you don't need the money...! nothing else i can add.“Watches, no matter how much they cost, are better at telling time than making a person happy.†- Thomas J. Stanley

Wow!! You seems to know alot about Rolex watches, thanks for sharing your knowledge with me. I do like the watch and has been keeping it for many years, just like to know more about the watch and am curious about it's origin. Guess this is the least I should know if I were to own the watch. Thanks!
