Watches are commodities, full stop. Education is an investment. The value of commodities is largely a result of sentiment. If the sentiment towards a model or brand is good, the market will be wiling to pay for it. So far the sentiment towards Rolex is still good. Understand?

So I say buy and wear with a good feeling. If it is time for you to change watches and the market sentiment is still good, then you will feel good about your purchase. Confused?

BTW, I thought the TS was just asking if Rolex will appreciate in value? Maybe he is just trying to find out if buying Rolex is a better choice versus as an investment?
    I will own a Rolex ................ someday!

Prices of new Rolex models tend to (not all though) be commanding a premium when first launch but prices come down around 3-6 months down the road. Buying them when they have just launched them are almost guaranteed suicidal actions (there are exception to this rule though) that will take more than 10 years to breakeven. Some likely will never though, e.g the Milgauss Green anniversary model. I have head of folks paying SGD12-13k for it when first launch! Crazy as it may sound but true... those bought at this price will take a long long time to even breakeven.. let alone earn....

          Happy investing folks...
          Totaly true.
Depend on how much when u bought the watch.

            Agreed

Lots of researches have to be done to nail those pieces that are almost sure to appreciate in values in time to come. that's the fun part of investing into watches, especially vintage Rollies... there is this unspoken satisfaction and pride once you snatched that desired piece at a price you know can only go up 3-5 years from now... even if you don't wear it, having it in your possession gives you a certain fulfillment...

To use the common cliche heard here, welcome to the dark side...

Congrats on your lucky find! Even if its a preowned and without box and papers, it is still considered a good buy, assuming the watch is in a fairly decent condition...
