while they used to be "value buys," these days the prices that tudor subs command are no longer attractive as they are closing in on (and in some cases, exceeding) prices of older pre-owned rolex subs.

at such prices, i would rather fork out my money (and perhaps a few hundred dollars more) and go for an actual rolex sub.

from a collector's point of view, tudor subs are irreplaceable and thus worth the "premium."

however from a purely technical/practical point of view, there can be no comparison between the two submariners - the rolex movement is far superior to the 390/2824.

My first few watches are Omega Plant Ocean (buy & sell - 2 times), then Panerai and finally a Rolex Sea-Dweller.

Must say Omega is value for money because it's build quality is Good and service standard at Swatch Group is Excellent.

However, Rolex price is expensive but it's build quality is Excellent. Service Centre standard is Good only .

If dwell into Rolex mechanical design, it's much better than omega.
As we progress, we appreciate the Heart of the time-piece more than the exterior design.

no idea bros, I think above 8k maybe? At the discontinuation of the last carbon fibre racing, it was retailing for 7k, so the solar impulse GMT should cost a good chunk more

I was reading the thread on Day-Date here, and a fellow Rocker posted a link to this rolex history blog. From the blog, seems that the first few leaders that Rolex presented watches to received Datejusts and not Day-Dates?

              What is a flagship anyway?

in this case , the flagship means something like the signature product of rolex, the model that represents the Rolex brand, the most prominent Rolex watch etc.

When you buy an Omega, you are just buying a watch.

When you buy a Rolex, you are buying more than just a watch..
                      It's a lifestyle.

                      Same goes for a Harley.
When you buy a bike, it's just a bike.

I like both brands, but I find that the build quality of the Omega today is not as good as those earlier, say in the 1970s....so if I am buying brand new, I will take Rolex for quality, but I must admit some of the new Omega designs do look nicer and of more variety...

i've never had many experiences with swatch SC at wheelock place.

however i've had 3. once to service a speedmaster, once to buy a link for my speedmaster, and once to remove a link.

when it required money out of my pocket the first two times, i gladly paid and waited quite a few weeks (a service and to order and install a link).

but on my third visit, they wanted to charge me $25 or $35 to REMOVE a link to resize bracelet...

thanks, but no thanks. that visit also ended my love affair with omega - i sold my SM300 and speedmaster pro shortly after.

                            http://rolexblog.blogspot.com/2008/0...nt-part-1.html

the day dates weren't made when the first few were presented to prominent politicians/officers/royalty.

the evolution of the day date took a while as it was only introduced in 1956 (i think).

general ike received his watch sometime early in 1951...

at the time, the solid gold datejusts (which had been around for decades) were probably their most expensive chronometer.
