  • watch winding (need some help)

    Hi gurus,

I need some help here. I saw that the time has stopped on my vintage rolex datejust this morning and tried to rewind my rolex vintage datejust, then realized that the date changes at about 8 instead of 12! Did not experience this before in the last week that I gotten the watch back from serving. Is this normal, or did I just mess up something?? Accidentally adjusted the date manually before winding the hour hand, is this the reason to why this is happening now?? If so, how do I readjust my watch such that the date will only flip when it is across 12??

Try turning the time (after the crown is pulled out fully) for a few rounds and see if the date still jumps at 8pm. If yes, you will have to resend it in for further service/repair.

most watches with date will have its date advance about 12, the mechanism starts to engage itself and prepares for the date change when the time is between 10 to 2 position.

if your date change occurs @ 8, it is pretty early. suggest you bring your watch back to the technician and highlight the issue to the person and get it rectified.

it does not matter whether you wind up the watch before changing the date.

thks bros for the advice. the watch seems to be ok now. monitored the watch closely ytd and everything seems fine. just find it weird that when i am winding the watch the date flip at 8...

just another side question(dun want to start another thread here), if i want to get a original rolex box for my vintage 1601 oyster datejust, what kind of box can i get? does different rolex models have their own boxes? are they not interchangeable? cos i seen some for sales here but not exactly the datejust model, so was thinking can buy or not.

            hi gurus,

i accidentally wind the date of my tudor watch manually at about 10pm yesterday, and read that we shd not do so between 9pm to 2am. Now when i wind the hour hand of my watch the date flipping mechanism seems to start engaging at about 11pm, and the date will be in a weird position(it is between 2 dates), then only flip at 12.10 and not exactly at 12. Also, when I start and reset the chrono second hand, it ends up at the 11 oclock position instead of the 12 position. Did I just screw up my watch becos of my carelessness?? Any gurus can advice??

when the date change mechanism is engaged exactly, no one can 100% say for sure. however, it is commonly advised that when a user wants to perform date change, it is preferred not to be done between 10 to 2 o'clock position because the different watches date change mechanism engage different.

whether or not the irregularities reported by you is due to your date change exercise, no one can say for sure. however, it is recommended that you bring your watch to a reliable and trusted technician you believe in to have the watch assessed.
