The next question will be if the same practice is observed the same by all other overseas' RSCs?

I have come across overseas forums mentioning the same policy so I assume it is a global policy. Don't make good sense for Rolex to practise it in some and not the other countries unless they are unable to apply the policy due to local laws.

I believe we have members from few other countries like Malaysia, HK, Australia and USA etc, so it would be great if these members can help to verify if this policy exist in the RSC in their country.

Yes you are right. For one common example, if I send my gmt pepsi for bezel replacement, if I not wrong about $120 maybe, they will not return my old bezel. Do we have our right for asking back the replacement parts, NO.. I like when the part they reply, "Company policy" haha what to do, also need to do..

Bro.. What if you removed the bezel insert yourself and send your gmt pepsi to rsc and say the bezel insert dropped off and got lost while you were indulging in some sports activity... Then we can compare and see how much they charge for a new insert and whether they are giving us consumers a cheaper price for replacement parts since it's like a "trade in" policy with RSC and we should be able to confirm whether they really giving us cheap or chopping our head...

RSC never say trade in. Some of you assume/treat it like that (to make yourselves feel better?).

i just like to stretch imagination a little further. there are many sellers who sell on internet indicating that the rolex part such as bezel, buckle, etc in sealed condition. so these parts come into the market?

I have no ideal about bezel but I do play magic tricks for verify with under warranty. Regulate lah, check date changing after 1205 lah, many more tricks for free hehe. No lah not chopping our head, standard price so rolex can stand values. Can you imagine if RCS do full servicing for $250, sound cheap right but at this time with this price, ppl thinking Rolex have lost the standard lol. Yes not really call trade in, just a ideal sound like Consider "trade in. anyway all part replacement no return, how they do what they do we have no ideal but will be a 2 donkey years confident.

I'm more concerned if the AD should actually point this out to the customer when the purchase is going to take place. What good does it do when one has already bought the watch only to realize that RSC has such a policy?

Precisely. How did these get into the market? And judging from the prices of these accessories and parts, they were far more expensive than what RSC is selling. I recalled an earlier intention to change bezel insert for an older model GMT II. Checked with RSC and I was quoted slightly more than a hundred dollars, inclusive of labour charges. Then I saw online sales of these similar part going at $300-$400 (new). Labour is your own.

Because of exclusivity mah.. Like not just any tom dick and harry can get hold of these spare parts what... You think rsc would just sell us if we were to go there and just buy these parts over the counter.. I don't think so la bro.. So since these other sellers can get hold of these parts hence they sort of charge a premium plus profit and sell to others at a higher price la..

I see where you are coming from. Unfortunately the manufacturer has no obligation to provide such information at the point of sales. Another consumer can argue that the near $1K servicing cost is ridiculous and demand to be informed at the point of sales because that will affect his purchase decision, so where do one draws the line? Ultimately it still boils down to whether such policy is deemed (by laws) as unfair practice or not.

There can be a lot of possibilities in the supply chain - suppliers, factories, service centres, and even theft & pilferage during transportation which is not that uncommon. There can also be doubt on the authenticity of some of these parts though most of them look legit on picture. There is really no point in speculating the source since we are never going to get a confirmation.

you mentioned a good point - look legit. how do you know if these parts are authentic or not.

when i service my car, the car mechanic takes out all the standard items that need to be changed and place it besides my car before i go for my kopi break. when i come back, they changed items are placed next to my car to indicate that it has been changed.

the common procedure when one sends in rolex @ RSC, the CSO will take it the watch, indicate if there are any dings, scratches, etc through visual inspection and notes it down and place the watch in an envelop and brings in to the watch technician who will look through the watch and test the basic accuracy and notes down what needs to be done.

following the car service example, can the rolex technician not take the parts out say bezel, glass, crown, clasps in sealed condition and bring out to show customer. then when collecting watch, show the customer what parts has been changed and the changed parts be shown to customer as proof that it has indeed been changed.

Showing the new parts and the changed parts is not an assurance that the old parts are replaced by the new parts, or are replaced at all, unless they perform the operation under your eyes. So you are actually merely talking feel-good factor, but even such feel-good factor is built on trust.

By the way, did anyone make such a request at RSC before, and what was the response?
