  • Reverso Squadra or Santos 100XL?

Saw these 2 watches just now at MBS whilst walking around with the wifey after dinner..tried on both watches and they wear the same..both are squarish and thick..feels good on the wrist..both are watches with history..though it's a spinoff of the original Reverso and Santos for a more sporty and modern feel..

The main difference is well of cos the name it carries..JLC is a watch maker's watch whilst Cartier well..sports an ETA and is more of a fashion watch..the difference in price is not alot..after the respective discounts I can get from my SA the difference is only about $1k..

At this point I'm leaning more towards the Reverso Squadra..although it's not a watch I would necessary buy cos I like big watches with wrist presence but it is big and weighty enough..plus it's quite value for money with it's in-house movement..dun get me wrong the Santos will feel very happy on my wrist as well..it's just the JLC piece has more going for it..it has a GMT complication as well..

What do you think? Which would you get? Here are some pics to show you which I'm referring to..

JLC gets my vote......the design the shape the mechanism just attacts me and this is the 1st watch that makes me started looking at JLC. As for the the Santos when it 1st came out I thot that's a nice big man watch that I must have however went into the cartier boutique twice with buying it in mind and end up buying some cartier jewel (chain, ring), after looking at the real thing and putting on it just doesn't gives me that zing feeling so now I dun even dare go into any cartier boutique.
    Current watch list:-
    Rolex DJ (11640)
Omega Seamaster (daily beater - now down pending servicing...)
    Tudor Glamour DD
    Magrette Bronze (daily beater)
    Hamilton Jazz
PAM 0000 (Got it for my 41 BD)

    Latest new toy:-
Seiko Sumo Diver (daily beater to replace my broken Seamaster)

Moving into vintage rolex... targeting on good condition DD1803, Explorer1 1016, Explorer2 1655.

...for sure for me .... Cartier Santos ....best the chrono ...

I own a JLC .... reversible .... after sometime ... it's just like a pretty face start growing pimples ........reason ...if you have itcy hand keep reversing it ... it get scratches easily.

and the value ... you may ask around . just my 2cts worth ..u decide...after all it's will be on your wrist . Cheers !!

JLC if u appreciate its movement and history (personally feels its very undervalued and under appreciated here).

But the JLC is too soft n small for my liking so I'll go with the santos cause of its looks n size. I'm 60-40 on this.

I like both pieces, but I'd go for the JLC. It's a better watch as compared to the Santos, for it's movement is definitely better than the latter. However, my only qualm for the JLC is that it is not as versatile as compared to the Santos. Anyways, good luck on your search

Jlc for the value as a watch maker creating it's mvmt
IMHO cartiers are rather over priced for Eta

                    Definitely the JLC, imo.

Collected my old man's Squadra from JnS today who made a new leather strap and whilst shopping, stepped into Cartier at Ion and tried on the Santos. Didn't feel that the Santos fit well on my wrist, as compared to the JLC.

Jlc for me.... at least for it's solid watch making heritage.

i like JLC.. but in this case, i go for Santos... for the size and bigger presence... Reverso Squadra still a bit too dressy (softy) ;p

JLC is as visible but more understated. I would pick a Squadra over Santos. But then again I may be biased since I have a Squadra.
