hope this helps in your answer
Thanks for the enlightenment! Mystery solved for me! I always wondered if the lume can last from the time you submerge all the way throughout the dive. Charging it with dive torch sounds logical but it never dawn on me.... obviously i'm no diver tho i wear a sub...
      I'm in bad company........

Love the green on this watch!
After all we change our outfits everyday, why should our time pieces deserve anything less?

a bit of a "chameleon" to be honest.

A few others thought it was a black dial from a distance till they came up close and had a look to realise it was green.

here are a few quick shots, dial looks black at some angles

here it looks black here huh

when angled, there are black shades mixed in with the green

here you see the dark patches of "black" once again appear on the dial depending on the angle, and always at opposing 180 degree areas.

Although the marketing literature from Rolex says the watch will fit over a 3mm wetsuit with the 20mm glidelock extension in the clasp this is not really true in real life.
had the watch fitted with the fliplock diver extension (option part - same part number from the deep sea sea dweller) so that it could go over my 3mm Scubapro thermaltec wetsuit.

this is what the watch looks like in total darkness.
The lume has been charged by shining a diving torch over it for a few moments (Underwater Kinetics eLED light cannon, 825lumens, 10 seconds)

                        Rolex Submariner illumination shot (blue!)
You can see that the lume is so bright that it is reflected off the inside of the sapphire crystal and lights up some wording on the dial.
The hour markers also shine brightly and are reflected off the "inner bezel" known more correctly as the "Rehaut" (French)
An excellent showcase of the green hulk sub.... the pics are awesome....
