She is very happy... keep saying that its very beautiful... ask her to wear it to dinner last night but she insisted of keeping it in the safe till the CNY... Everytime when i see her or my wife happy, my heart feels so good...

My wife being the down to earth and realistic person she is... (damn blessed to have her as my soulmate) You know what she said to me when I wanted to get her a pre-own Rollie for her as wedding cum pregnancy gift???

                  .....

                  ....

                  .

She said "I rather have you put a few Ks cash in my mutual trust funds lah, got dividends and I can see the cash" I rest my case, period!

Mutual funds, which we call Unit trust here in this part of the world, are subjected to volatily as well. Most underlying assets are equities. As for those that yield goo d dividends, the stocks are usually those with low beta and don expect much capital appreciation.

As for watches, its also another asset class. Just like these days, people are investing in wines, watches and gold provide investors with a good hedge against inflation and market volatility. If you are buying a new watch, most probably, you will be experiencing some losses. The idea here is to get those with good track records.

Example here, in the early 2000, if you have bought a new sub ND, it will set u back by around 4k, the preown price today of that watch would be around 4 to 4.5k. But if you have put money into equities or Mutual funds over this period, you may have lost quite a big chunk. I have lost near 30% to 40% in both stocks and Mutual funds over the past 3 years...

Better understand what you are buying into will give you clearer picture. End of the day, money is not what most people are pursuing, but the "quality of the lifes of loved ones and own life" that this money can bring is what people are after... We came empty handed and will leave one day empty handed. What a pity if we had accumulated much wealth but after we have leave this world, we don even know who or how this money will be utilised. But making good financial decisions today is also very important. Like over-leveraging on the stock market is never a wise decision but many had fall for the trap. Ideally, max. that one should put in the market is only 20% of liquidable assets, but how many had followed this model, including myself had failed to allocate assets wisely. Not to forget, the underlying assets of mutual funds are also equites...

Thanks all for all the complements.

My mum had been working hard since my dad left us when i was only 5 years old. She had bring us (3 Bros) good and disciplined. She had always told us that she always hope that she will have a rolee (she does not even have 1 afer all these years) but can never bring herself to spend the money to get one.

Not that i am very fillial, but i believe most people, after seeing their mum worked hard, to bring up 3 boys and supported all of them to uni educations, would like to show some kinda of gratitude toward their parents... Compared to what i have spend on watches myself, this is really not much... after alll if i have been really fillial, i should have got her 1 before myself... wahahaha

Just to fulfill her wish... don wait till everything is too late and we start to question ourselves WHY NOT THEN!!
