ok i've SEARCH the net and found that:

Tritium (sometimes also called triton) is radioactive isotope of hydrogen. The emitted electrons from small amounts of tritium cause phosphors to glow so as to make self-powered lighting devices. It had the advantages of being self-powered and producing a consistent luminosity that did not fade during the night.

Luminova is a non-radioactive and non-toxic alternative for illuminating markings on watch dials and hands in the dark. Selected grades of new chemical compositions have up to 100 times better brightness than previous zinc sulphide materials.

think i know now why tritium had been 'phased out'. prob due to its radioactive properties

Not really phased out what. A lot of manufacturers like Ball are into Tritium gas lights in a really big way.

agree. but they are using gas and ball specifically assured owners that it does not pose a health risk.

another reason is that tritium has relatively short half-life (about 12 yrs). that is after the 12th year, u won't see ur watch 'glow' any more.

any other comments and views welcomed. share share la

It has a half-life of 12 years... so the grow will last 24 year
