  • My Triple (lock) Crowns...

Coming from Panerai background, I was never a Rolex fan...not for their "small" size watches and "flimsy" stamped clasps with "cheap" rattling bracelet...not until the Deepsea came out that I guess I should give it a shot...and...it turns out better than I expected...

Changing something is not easy, need time to adjust and adapt to the changes but I can confidently say that I am a believer in those "small", "flimsy" and "cheap" Rolexes apart from the Deepsea...

It all began when I got for my wife a Rolex Explorer 1 which she does wear every now and then as she is rarely out of the house being a full time housewife...and during those times the Explorer was "abandoned" I am guilty of helping my wife wear it (becoming a shared watch) and after couple of times it's on my wrist, I guess I am getting use to this 36mm gentlemen's watch...and maybe...just maybe I could warm up to the 40mm ones?

So the debate started and I was torn between the classic SD and my first classic Submariner...

Tried on the classic SD but it seems to share a close resemblance to the classic Sub and furthermore I already have a Dssd , though having the SD is a good compliment to any collection together with a Dssd but prices for the SD has increase to a proportion that I am not able to justified the purchase...and the Dssd is one of its kind and it Rocks!

I was also looking at the classic 5513 and found a seller with lovely patina 5513 but it comes with a new casing from RSC though the rest, dial and hands are still original, I decided not to go with it as I am worried about true "originality" and long term water resistance issues...

And than I saw this. Not collectible. Not rare. Not desirable. Millions in numbers. But this one is with a patina that it has develop where not one patina is the same. It's special on its own rights. And price seems within my budget with spare change...

And this...adds to the family and the third of my crowns...

    A true classic...

p.s. sorry for the long introduction post...

              Thank you.

It's an early series of the 16610. Got presented with 2 choices, the 16800 and 16610. I would have snatch the 16800 in a heart beat if it comes with the matt dial rather than glossy dial which makes no difference with the 16610. And more ever this 16610 patina is nicer than the 16800 plus the price for the 16800 was too much.

It's a 24 years old piece and local set. Just the "neo-vintage" I am looking for.

              Cheers.

Rolex to Panerai is NOT a downgrade bro. Same goes from Panerai to Rolex is not an upgrade...both have their merits.

If verified by RSC (cost of S$107) and physical condition is as good as what you posted in the pic, I'd say you can buy it. Only downside is lack of paper but if you r not intending to sell it later, then sure....
