Coming from Panerai background, I was never a Rolex fan...not for their "small" size watches and "flimsy" stamped clasps with "cheap" rattling bracelet...not until the Deepsea came out that I guess I should give it a shot...and...it turns out better than I expected...
Changing something is not easy, need time to adjust and adapt to the changes but I can confidently say that I am a believer in those "small", "flimsy" and "cheap" Rolexes apart from the Deepsea...
It all began when I got for my wife a Rolex Explorer 1 which she does wear every now and then as she is rarely out of the house being a full time housewife...and during those times the Explorer was "abandoned" I am guilty of helping my wife wear it (becoming a shared watch) and after couple of times it's on my wrist, I guess I am getting use to this 36mm gentlemen's watch...and maybe...just maybe I could warm up to the 40mm ones?
So the debate started and I was torn between the classic SD and my first classic Submariner...
Tried on the classic SD but it seems to share a close resemblance to the classic Sub and furthermore I already have a Dssd , though having the SD is a good compliment to any collection together with a Dssd but prices for the SD has increase to a proportion that I am not able to justified the purchase...and the Dssd is one of its kind and it Rocks!
I was also looking at the classic 5513 and found a seller with lovely patina 5513 but it comes with a new casing from RSC though the rest, dial and hands are still original, I decided not to go with it as I am worried about true "originality" and long term water resistance issues...
And than I saw this. Not collectible. Not rare. Not desirable. Millions in numbers. But this one is with a patina that it has develop where not one patina is the same. It's special on its own rights. And price seems within my budget with spare change...
And this...adds to the family and the third of my crowns...
A true classic...
p.s. sorry for the long introduction post...
