            • Adding on to my collections:
              Patek Philippe. Genève.
Patek Philippe Naviquartz Chronometer, Ref : E1200, Cal. 33 with quartz standardization marina electronic chronometer with sweep centre seconds in original mahogany box. Manufactured in the late 1960s. In black dial, inner Arabic numerals, Arabic seconds indication to the outer raised chapter ring, in black painted cast metal case with chromium plated bezel.

The original purpose of any chronometer is to be used in celestial navigation. In conjunction with a sextant and star chart a captain or sailor would measure the degrees that a known star is above the horizon (or it's Zenith) at a given time and date and get a position on the ocean. A minute error in measure of degrees or time will equate to many nautical miles of position error so accurate time is essential.
