I hope too that your piece will arrive soon

The size needs a bit getting-use-to especially you are so used to big watches now. But you sound like you are ready for it, haha.

By the way yours should wear slightly bigger than this piece of mine due to it is auto and hence should be thicker, I guess.

Indeed Stowa makes beautiful and high quality watches. Why not buy from TS himself, I think he is selling it but not sure if it's sold.

Thanks for the good words. The watch was sold overnight at asking price.

                        This is damn nice! Like!!

I would like to ask something for learning sake......

                        Stowa says:

"STOWA is one of the few companies that made original pilot watches in the 1940s.
In the mid 90's we were the second company, next to IWC (Schaffhausen) to represent this tradition and to once again add these models to our range. In addition to the classic version in the original design we now also offer versions with date display."

So I learn that they have been making pilot watches since the 40s. But I find their design very similar to IWC's Big Pilot, I don't know who inspired who..... or all pilot watches are about the same look? (Just as all divers watches like about the same, though Rolex is most widely recognised)

My honest concern is whether the Stowa Flieger is being considered a homage to IWC Big Pilot?
                        I'm in bad company........

My answer would be no, not to mention that Stowa Flieger and the IWC Big Pilot do not share the exact same design. To go into further discussion, we first have to establish if we are talking about pilot watch in general or a particular design such as the one in this thread - the B-Uhr type A.

First of all, Flieger means "flyers" in German, which can be seen as another general term for pilot watches. Other terms used to describe pilot watches are "navigator" and "observation watch" ("Beobachtungsuhr" in German). Somehow, over time, the different terms that referred to very much the same thing became associated with certain design of pilot watches, due to the design (and in some cases the features) of the watch each term was first used on.

The Beobachtungsuhr, B-Uhr in shot, refers to the type of pilot watches made for the German Luftwaffe during WWII according to a certain specification. Design wise the B-Uhr is further split into type A and type B for the different dials. As we know by now, there were 5 brands that maufactured the B-Uhr during WWII, Stowa and IWC among them. Who exactly produced the design, is not well documented, although drawing of a Wempe B-Uhr can be found on the internet. It could even be the German Luftwaffe itself, or the German Luftwaffe engaged someone to design it.

The reason IWC is mentioned in Stowa website, is probably due to that IWC is the most well known (and a premium) brand among those 5.

There is an interesting article here which I have shared with a member on this forum before. It is said in that article that "To this day, no watch manufacturer can claim credit to its (B-Uhr's) exclusive rights hence numerous companies can pay homage to the original design".
