  • Just bought my dream watch - AP Alinghi polaris ROO limited edition

Recently acquired from a dealer here, this rare 1300 limited edition AP in stainless steel...

Since can't really understand from the web review of this watch, i decided to learn myself how this chronograph works today, took me an hour to understand the chrono function operations.

    Short review

This model is not the usual chronograph functions with start/stop/reset push buttons.
It is a flyback chrono, a complicated chrono regatta countdown function. Is a 'Flyback' with the lower stop button can reset back the second hand to zero and the chrono continues to run.

One minute countdown gun at start of yachting Regatta
When the top button starts the chrono, the white sec hand moves, one min of this hand, the red flag window at 12 o'clock will countdown and dissappear. The red hand will move to the one min posn as indicates in red. This starts the gun.

    10 minute to starting race
When the main red hand ends at 10 min as shown from the outer ring symbolise the special 10 minute countdown for start of race to the starting line. Upon arrival, the press of the bottom chrono button activates the 'Flyback", the white sec hand immediately turns back to zero while the red hand continues the timer.

Every 1 min run of the main white hand will moves the tiny needle at 9 o'clock by one indication.
Every 20 mins run of this subdial will move the subdial at 6 o'clock by 1 indication.
Finally a full time of 1 hour chrono will reset back the red flag and re-appears.

I personally think this Alinghi Polaris is really under valued at under 30K. The black and red dial just look so attractive and 'fierce'. The 'flyback' chrono and the tiny red flag window makes this watch a rare gem and the only one found in AP ROO watches. I also like the additional 11 o'clock button that can rotates the inner bezel. Morever i heard that Ap will no longer be working together with the Alinghi team makes this watch more of a treasure to me.

I'm a happy man now, a dream comes true.
Hope those who are like me before confused but understand now can appreciate the beauty of the Alinghi APs

Yes bro, i suppose except with the additional red flag window in the Ap Alinghi polaris gives the watch a more complex complicated chrono not found in other brands...
