  • You buy, I buy

WL and I had wanted to get a blue sumo quite a while back. However, after both of us did some searching and emailed to one of the forum advertiser and got no reply, the desire slowly faded off. That was, until the curse "the watch will come to you" came into effect again...

During one of my "backside-itchy" inquiry to a forum seller, I got to know that he actually had two pieces of BNIB blue sumo (it was not mentioned in his post), I immediately informed WL as the price was within our target. WL replied that he already bought two blue Seikos this year and did not intend to add another. Upon hearing that, I was a bit unsure too as it reminded me that I too have two Seikos and one of them I had never used since purchase. So I told the seller that I couldn't make up my mind and that I wouldn't be meeting him that night.

The next morning (i.e. this morning), while in a train going to work (yes, that's how much I have downgraded ), I received a whatsapp from WL asking if I had bought the sumo. I replied: "no. Why leh?". "You created an itch that didn't go away" was the answer. I was so encouraged that I made a very smart suggestion to make an offer to the seller to deal at a further discounted price for both pieces (which in fact, both WL and I were thinking about that from the beginning, haha). The rest is history.

Some quick shots with my handphone at the coffee shop just now (pardon the lousy quality)...

Awesome..just when I was reading up on this particular watch. Very very keen on getting one.

How is the built quality? I have a SMP and kinda worry that the Sumo will pale in comparison too much that I don't enjoy the watch.

Glad some of you like the story. Actually I wanted to share the experience more so than the watch, which explains why such standard of pics made it to the showcase. Moral of the story - most members here are really bad companies

This is not my first sumo. Had a black one prior to this. As I have said here before, I feel the case of the sumo resembles that of Omega. The built quality is also close to that imo but I can't say the same for the bracelet (and to a lesser extent the bezel). But then to also have an Omega equivalent bracelet and sell at such price would be a crime. Overall the sumo is an excellent diver worth much more than it costs, and definitely will not "pale in comparison too much" vs the SMP.

Sounds good. Have you considered swapping out the bracelet for a higher quality one?

I was really in the market for a big face watch which looked good on leather but my heart kept going back to diver watches. =/

No. The bracelet of sumo is its weak point, but not unacceptable to me and doesn't cause discomfort. The Anvil bracelet is quite a popular swap among Seiko enthusiasts, and there are also owners who replace the hardlex crystal with sapphire one, as you might have read.
