To change glass or not

Hi All,

I just acquired a Rolex 16760 aka 'Fat Lady' from a reputable reseller. I am not very pleased with the fine scratches on the sapphire glass. I am in 2 minds to send it to RSC to change to a new glass and do a pressure test.

I note that in the event that I send my watch to RSC, I got to be careful and to remind them not to change the dial and hands of the watch.

Also, my apologies for posting here if the watch is not a vintage.

Gurus, Please advise.

They can only do wet test, cost around $40 or $60, but once failed they will force you to service the entire movement. Glass change will have a "S" engraved to it, people will know it is a replacement. But if it become an eye sore to see it everyday get it change. I would prefer to leave it till complete overhaul to get it change.

Sorry what do u mean by there is a 'S' engrave to the glass. I have not seen this before. I only know about the Rolex logo etched near the 6 hour marker for newer models. Also, is that anyway that I can polish the glass instead then.

sapphire crystal is so hard, i don't think it can be polish off.

Need to polish it with an abrasive compound with moh scale of <9.

Isnt that the laser engraving at 6 o' clock, at the underside of the crystal?

juz wanna share my glass change experience yday at RSC.
Recently bgt my 16610 and decided to the change the glass, hav got some major scratches on it.
Was told they nd to open up and chk to see if mine is a real rolex and to see if the internal parts are alright or in need or servicing 1st, b4 they can quote for glass change.
Lady told me if watch no need servicing, Glass change will cost btw $250 - $300. But if need servicing, whole package will cost $1k above.
So i prayed and waited...heng ah...she called back say no need servicing and can do glass change.

Cost - $260, inclusive of labour (free authentication!!!)
No 1 service warranty for this thou.

I didn't get it replaced or checked at all in the end. Bro Mille told me to check if there were any anti reflective stuff on the crystal, I used a strong light and a magnifying glass. And while checking, I discovered the lines are the wrinkles on the old dial and not on the surface of the sapphire crystal instead.

Gave myself a scare but absolutely after I realised they were not scratches.

yes if you have scratches on your glasses of new watches then you must immediately go to the dealer and complain about it your watch must be in warranty glasses can be replaced ... same thing happened with me also and i took my watch to retailer my glasses were changed suddenly free of cost
