  • Help on pricing on 16800 Matt dial model

Hi newbie here looking to purchase a 16800.

Am not sure of the price would 7000 be a fair price. Watch offered is in good condition. But the face is aged, matt face, yeah. Even aged face.

    Bracelet is not too bad.

Is the price fair, and is the watch really that uncommon? I like the vintage look compared to a new sub. But compared to a sea dweller and a new sub, I am wondering can the watch be as reliable due to its age of around 20 plus years.

    Thx :

A 16800 wif matte dial is quite uncommon. Many are fitted wif the later WG gloss dial. I have a 16800, and its very reliable and keeps good time. I got mine at about mid 6k.....but that was quite some time ago.....prices may have headed north since.....

    Hope this helps.Regards,P.

      Hi

I read you use it as a daily batter, your 16800. I am not so sure abt the price as where can I reference it. Hence I am here.

      You serviced it at RSC?

I personally think its an awesome watch..........vintage look while having modern sapphire toughness.....P.

            HI

hehe I like your motto, cool. Yup it is unique and personally its full of character.Just not sure if its a fair price...... Hopefully some experts or seasoned members here can give me some pointers. Sorry to trouble you bt, dont mind PM me the pic of the watch so I can have a reference of the condition and the price paid.

I know it might be too much to ask and apologise if I come across as rude. But it is just that I really have no clue.

            Thank you
            Cheers

is the face like the one in the picture shown above (in very good physical condition)? if so, it is not age... it's from lack of use. the plots should brighten with use...

the movement has some common faults but these are known to all experienced watchmakers and are easy to fix/resolve so i would dare say it's reliable.

personally i would not pay 7k for a 16800 but i doubt local prices would become any cheaper...

Greetings everyone!!...My name's Jamy and I'm a newbie here after looking around for alternative to Ebay..
Hi Jamie!! I believe $7K is over price in my opinion...as I bought my for much lesser than that...It was a 1980s Model. Before that I purchase the later made model 16610 "P" series (which is made around year 2002) which I sold it away (at a S$500 lost) to a friend so that I could get this older model...Here's a picture of my 16800 to share with everyone (If I can get it correctly uploaded---still finding my way around here..)... If the right offer comes along I might sell it...I'm think of getting the 5512 or 5513.. Thank you everyone for reading. Have a good day!!

                          Rolex 16800

                          Dear:Jamie

Congrats!! So you paid S$107 to have ROlex Ctr verify it...for a peace of mind.
I did that when I purchase my GMT Master 1675 n they came back with some recommendation after verifying that it is genuine...However I kind of regret going along with their recommendation - like having it redial (which comes with new hands, date plates), replace the back cover all of which I should have retain them on second thought...but fortunately I stand firm on the faded bazel as you have to be aware that whatever you replace (in case you are not aware of it) - Rolex will get to keep all the old parts (except if its diamond/gold,etc---thats what I am told)..Therefore I was not keen of them taking away the faded bazel...

Anyway I am sure you will enjoy many hours of fun with your watch...Hopefully it helps to distress like it did for me---I have all my watches (about 20+ pieces) in my office and I take them out to play with it whenever I feel like it---its like fostering a closer relationship with them...

                          Cheers!!

Have a good weekend everyone! (I will be traveling to Malaysia for the weekend n thats when I put on my Replica...hee,hee )..

                          Best Regards
                          Jamy.

                            Hi

verified and its original, but I bought from another dealer much better a price. Fair I would say jamy.
Rolex told me that the watch needs to be services, case back corroded and pitted recomended change. But guy who sold me a reputable dealer, laughed it off and said that he checked and serviced my watch. He offered to open it for me to see for corrosion.
He claims that its sales talk... I am inclined to trust that chap the dealer, he seems trustworthy, not sure why a gut feeling.

The faded dial is lovely, matt faced.

                            Cheers Jamie!

Wow 20 plus watches!!! you are one rich guy man. I cant afford that even if all are g shocks!!!

Hi Jamie n everyone here. At the end of the day as long as you feel good n happy about your purchase (n its original) -- nothing else matters. I agree that everytime u pay a visit to RC they will somehow recommend you to do this n that...My last Submariner I didnt bothered to have it authenticate but one of the Rolex I bought I actually open up the case myself n do the verification the DIY way.
Thank goodness u didnt replace any parts cos thats where the value of the watch is..I'm sure those reading this thread would agree that replacing some of those parts will only lessen the value of your "as it it" condition Rolex.
As for my collection I only went on a buying spree sometime in Nov last yr (although I already own about 10pcs before that thru years of accumalation starting in 1981 when my mum bought me my first 2-tones Date just) until recently Ebay hang up my account for whatever reasons which I fail to understand till today...but I guess could be either I cancel two successful bids as well as carry out a private transaction with a seller---but to this day they simply dont bother to tell me the reason for the suspension...So its a blessing in disguise cos I dont need to buy anymore...at least for the time being. Anyway my collection are mostly humble pieces which doesnt really blow those serious watch collectors away - those are the ones with lots of serious buying power to acquire pieces that are beyond the reach of most of us here...So I have to be contented with what I can afford n not go beyond that...
                              Enjoy your sub!!!
