  • GMT prices overshot ?

I have been observing the prices of resale GMT pieces i.e.
    - 16700 , between S$6k to 9k , up from S$4k-5k a year ago
    - 16750, between $8-10k, up from S$5k a year ago
    - 16710, between $5.8 - 8k, up from S$4.5k a year ago
    - 1675, between $8-13k, up from $5-6k a year ago

    ... in comparison,
    - Sub 16610 is now S$5.8k-$7.5k ... up from about S$4.5k - 6k a year ago.
(note: new parallel import "M" series 16610 is about S$7.2k+)
    - Sub 16800, now about $6.5-8k, up from $5k a year ago
    - sub 14060M, still about $4-5k
    - Sub 1680 (white), about $8-12k... no idea what it was a year ago.

... I think GMT prices have kinda shot too high (yes, even for me who just bought a 16700!) ... wonder if prices will suddenly come tumbling down.

In any case, now is a good time to buy a sub! Prices will probably rise next year when the new 116610 is likely to be released.

Yeah...if I bought a GMT II instead of a Exp II that time and kept till now...I would have made quite a decent amt.

So no 16710 for me....I see no use paying so much extra.

good thread. my take is that prices will somewhat dip a lil when the pepsi/coke ceramic surfaces at basel 09. but til then, it's just mere speculation.

Exactly one year ago when I knew that GMT II was discontinued I quickly look for one. End up brought a GMT Coke Z-series at 6.3K.

I remember I was in the AD and still consider of whether to get the GMT II or EXP II. I think I make a right choice

... I think very likely the biggest announcement at Basel09 will be the cerachrome bezel Submariner 116610.

so if anyone wants a sub, grab one this year!

                  Very true.Prices for GMTs....even a 16700 have gone crazy.

Watch shops are saying the 16700 is a 'VINTAGE', hence command a higher premium.MY FOOT it is.Its DISCONTINUED,.....but NOT vintage. They're jus trying to make a quick buck.

huh? that's the most ludicrous thing to say of 16700

16700 was always the "poor cousin" of the 16710... even in rolex's own catalogs... so today's prices are really nuts.

In the USA, I notice that asking prices have gone almost as high as Singapore... but they are not changing hands unless the price comes down to about US$3.5-4k or less (about S$4900-$5500)... so that leads me to conclude that the current 16700 prices have over-shot the mark if they're floating in the $6-7k range.

                        About same for most 16710.

but too bad that all the prices are being determined by demands..some people hiam too expensive but there are others who are willing to pay..just like the daytona..stock went out even after selling above list..

                            yes, that may be...
but as a buyer you have to be aware of how fast the price climbed... because it could mean that is not sustainable ... it may come crashing down very quickly.

Like what happened in the late 1990s with Exp-1 14270 thanks to demand in japan. It went as high as S$7k, before coming down to about $3k. Today a used 14270 sells for about $4k.
