  • Are these vintage?

    Hi all,
I've been on the sidelines for quite a while but haven't yet participated in any of the forums. So here's my story...

I was given my first Rolex from my father in the late 80's. Even then, I was told it was over 20 years old. Not long after he gave it to me, I had to have the crystal face cover replaced after I dropped it on the floor. At the same time, I had it serviced at an official Rolex dealer in the UK. Even for me, as an 'A' level student, the GBP 300 I spent on it was a huge dent in my savings! At the same time, I saved up for over a year (part-time job money!) to change the strap to a 14ct gold version.

I don't wear this any more as I was told that the sweat (salt water) from your wrist doesn't bode well for keeping the condition of the watch in top-top shape. Any thoughts on this theory?

My other question is how do I value this watch now for insurance purposes?

My other Rolex was bought by my wife as a birthday gift. She bought it from the brother-in-law back in 2001. It's an antique stainless steel oyster. What sort of valuation do you think I should put on it?

Images of these 2 watches are attached.

      Photobucket updated

Sorry about that... someone recommended me the other host company for some reason and I find it really useless. Didn't realise there were these other ones that are so much user-friendly.
