  • Pondering over this red sub

    Hi all,

I was browsing the net today and chanced upon the sale of a 5 mil series red sub.
It is currently going for 15.9 k in hobbylink at Far East plaza.I am not very sure but I think that red subs do not have such a high series number, gurus please advise.
I am thinking of popping into the shop on saturday to have a look. the link to the watch is attached, http://www.hobbylink.com.sg/Watches.htm.

Moderators, I hope I am not flaunting any rules by attaching a link to other websites. If I do, please remove. Thanks.

I think you make a mistake. They didn't quote red sub.
        It is a white sub.

Are you kidding? It is titled "Red Submariner" in big red letters.

i'm a fan of the 1680 red sub as well.

however, vintage rollies are such delicate creatures. bought a 5513 on impulse previously (thinking to wear it as a daily beater and maybe even for diving - it's a Sub after all!) but got chided by friends that to preserve the fairly good condition of the 5513, it should be worn maybe on a monthly basis, or even lesser..

guess like what many of our bros have mentioned in the various forum threads, if you really like the watch and are prepared to pay the offer price for it, do enjoy your purchase and wear the watch in good health.

Good luck in finding the red sub of your dreams!

they are daily beaters, the old movements are far more lasting than those 28.8bph 4 hertz modern movements. i have many old crappy pieces which still runs within scoc spec. don't worry too much, old rolex are manufactured as tool watches, not toy watches.

your friends are wrong. parts and service cases are still available. i would not hesitate to buy one and wear it any which way i like. they are not the least delicate if they have been serviced and passes annual pressure proofing.
