I was in dilemma some time back too between Milgauss GV and Explorer 1 39mm.

    My analysis as follow:-

    Explorer 39mm
    Pros:
    - oyster clasp
    - simple classic design
    - Matt centre link
    - Light in weight
    - understated luxury, under the radar
    - rich history
    - cheaper than Milgauss

    Con:
    - design is classic, therefore seems common
    - hands are short. (I don't really feel it, so ok for me)
    - abit too under the radar that ppl don't know you are wearing Rolex (+ point for me)
    Current Collection :

    1) Rolex YG White Mother of Pearl Roman Dial Datejust 16018 (8 mil Serial)

    2) Rolex YG Black Computer Roman Dial Datejust 16238 (L Serial)

    3) Rolex TT Blue Submariner 16613LB (M Serial)

    4) Rolex YG Red Vignette DayDate 18038 (8 mil Serial)

    5) Rolex PT Pinkish White MOP DayDate 18206 (A Serial)

      Milgauss GV
      Pro:
      - Unique Green Sapphire Crystal
      - Centre Polish Link that looks better than Matt.
      - Anti magnetic
      - rich history
      - classic design case

      Con:
      - the clasp is the only weakness for the watch (gets loose over a period of time due to design)
      - centre polish link tend to reflect scratches more obvious compared to Matt)
      - slightly heavier than explorer 1 39mm.
      Current Collection :

      1) Rolex YG White Mother of Pearl Roman Dial Datejust 16018 (8 mil Serial)

      2) Rolex YG Black Computer Roman Dial Datejust 16238 (L Serial)

      3) Rolex TT Blue Submariner 16613LB (M Serial)

      4) Rolex YG Red Vignette DayDate 18038 (8 mil Serial)

      5) Rolex PT Pinkish White MOP DayDate 18206 (A Serial)

            I vote explorer because:
            cheaper
39 mm explorer has tat new movement which is, to some extend, anti-magnetic?
            clean looks
Do not like the green glass nor the orange second hand

only edge milgauss has over the explorer is the chunk, and the dial lume.

I had the exact same dilemma as you. Can't decide between explorer 1 vs milgauss. But after trying both! The milgauss ended up winning my heart! It's just a unique and more uncommon timepiece around as compared to the explorer. Less chance to meet someone wearing the same watch as you!
