As one of the bro's pointed out, the 3777 runs on an eta valjoux 7750 movement, that's why it's the cheapest of the 3. but it's not a cheap piece if you compare it with other chronos running on the same engine.
all three are classics in their own right. i believe there's actually a rather huge following for the 3777's predecessor, the 3717.
however, for a little more, you can get an in-house movement that is cosc certified in the form of the sub c and gmt2.
personaly, as a first mechanical watch, I'd suggest going for rolex first. and work you way either upwards towards PP, Ap etc or downwards towards more VFM watches like steinhart, dievas, baume & maurice lacroix or even seiko.
if you prefer a bigger ornament on your wrist (43mm) with day and date and a stopwatch ( that will hardly see any action), then go for the 3777. but at a list price of SGD8500, i really think it's very over-priced. bearing in mind the 3717 was initially released at SGD7000, then subsequently hiked to SGD7600.
If you want an iconic (relative) piece, then go for the sub c. I believe this has no date window? well, do you mind paying more for less, then?
the gmt 2 is useful if you travel a lot. I'm assuming you're referring to the latest gmt2c? if so, then this is the piece I'd go for. I really dig the bezel.
but, personally, i find the two rolexes too small for me. so there...I don't have enuf watches but I will stop buying now!

Being your first mechanical wristwatch, I would recommend a Rolex (a crown for your achievement!! )!
Either the Sub C or the GMT II C is a good choice.
If you travel often, the second time zone on the GMT II C will come in handy. But I prefer the red or orange 24hr hand instead of the green one.
Sub C is a classic icon and as most bros comments, you can't go wrong with that.
But the most important point to consider is WHICH do you like, not us!
Follow your heart and look forward to your first buy! Good luck!Body Of Fat, Heart Of Gold.

Tough question! Each watch is a good timepiece.
1) Rolex Submariner is a plain simple watch. I feel simplicity is beauty. Moreover it's an iconic model. The new ceramic bezel is very beautiful. Submariner goes well with causal or formal wear. Both date or without date are nice models. Reliable 3135 movements. 1st choice.
2) Rolex GMT is a useful watch if you always travel as the additional GMT hand gives local timezone. Similar to Submariner in terms of designs, movements (improved 3186) and wearing. 2nd choice.
3) IWC 3777 is another iconic model from IWC Pilot series. The new 3777 is much bigger (43mm), thicker and new designs for the date as compared to 3717. It's beautiful and heavy, but a hefty price for a ETA movement. But the additional chronograph gives the title "complication". I would prefer 3717 instead. Anyway 3rd choice.
All these are my 2 cents opinions. You should try all of them to see which one smilies at you.Last edited by breitling77; 21-10-12, 09:15 AM.
