Help Needed Aquiring a Rolex Sub

1st time buying a Rolex sub

Alright guys, I'm gonna ask something really noobish so please pardon me. I'm planning to get myself and my dad a sub, 16610 and 16613 respectively. I'm looking at the preowned ones for now cause its lighter on my wallet. Haha.

Anyway, I've got a few questions that I wanna find out.
- does the "letter series" (eg. Series "S") matter othan then knowing the production date?
- how many links are there supposed to have Ian complete set? 13?
- What's the market price for these 2 models right now?
- what is supposed to be included in a full complete set?
- anything else to look out for?

Your help is very much appreciated. It helps me in getting my 1st Rolex!

Hi, welcome to the club. Let me offer my 2 cents opinion.

The 'S' represents which year the watch is produced. It matters as far as price is concerned. The older the model, you may pay lesser. But price is very subjective as it still depends on condition, complete set etc. But it does reflect "how old" the watch is.

I forgot how many links is complete set. But if you are getting preowned it's hard to get all links unless the seller or shop maintains it well. Most of the time, you may not get full links, may miss 1 or 2. But the shop will surely source spare links to make it fit on your wrist.

Not sure about the current market price as price is always subjective. But last retailed prices for 16610 and 16613 were $8k+ and $10k+. You may use this as a reference.

A brand new set comes with box, paper, booklets about Rolex and the model, Rolex seal and watch, of course!

Since it's preowned, always check watch's condition. The "accessories" are sometimes not important if you don't mind. But if incomplete set, you may pay lesser. And finally send watch for verification to ensure all parts are genuine and for piece of mind. But it all depends on your own choice.

When purchase a preown Rolex for a new collector,
suggest you take the watch to RSC to verify.
Cost of verification is $107 for SS model.

Before you bring to verify, here are a few things to check for preowned sub,
1) give the watch a few rounds of winding, you should feel some resistance, change the time and see date can move or not,
2) rotate the bezel, make sure its working,
3) check the sarpphire quartz got any cracks or not,
4) check the tightness of the bracelet - hold with fingers to see straight or not
5) check for major scratch or dents - light scratches is common

If you do not know how to check, you might need to have agreement with seller, tell him you will send watch to verify, if condition no good,
you won‘t buy the watch. Once you send it to RSC, they will tell you which part of the watch is damaged.

Yes, it is the ceramic version sub. This model is showcase in 2010 Basel World, therefore it should be available for consumer starting from mid or third quater of that year.

Chapter ring is actually the engrave rehaut. Which means engraving the words “ROLEX” on the side of the watch face between dial and crystal.

Another option is to buy for the sellers within sg-roc. There are some very nice sellers out there. And just to boost your confidence a bit, simply send to RSC to verify and its $107 well spend.
