i think rolex trying to project themselves as the more upmarket watches, you can see alot of jewel studded pieces lately. trying to be in the higher price range, and leaving the tool watches to other manufacturers
just my A$0.02

Bro, think you are spot on in yr opinion. but imho, it's a silly move by rolex. rolex (regardless of the amount of precious stones) will never be in the class of PP, period.
in this aspect, i think the pple at panerai are doing a far better job in the area of distinction. full marks to the idea of ease of strap change. change the look anytime, anywhere. same watch but somewhat different look.

i just saw an ad from the backcover of The Peak magazine that i received monthly and there's this green dial GMT Master II, ceramic bezel and on yellow gold bracelet...very nice...the brand ambassador is Trevor Immelman...an awesome and stunning watch...anyone knows how much it costs?
I think it is nice too.....but then again whole watch gold....very flashy
