Was in your position a while back and the initial first choice was sub no-date.
This all changes when I went to the local AD at Chinatown Point to try. The sub turns out to be too small (I have a 7 1/2 inch wrist) while the Exp II fits just nice. Also, it is much less common and not as obvious a Rolex to others.
However, I did not bought it on the spot. I went home to think and even went to another AD a few days later to convince whether the choice was correct.
Eventually, I bought the Exp II.
Hence, my advise for you is to try it out for yourself.
On my wrist:
2010 Seiko Spirit
2009 Tag Heuer Autavia
2009 Breitling Superocean Steelfish
2008 GMT II Black/Red
2008 Exp II White
2006 Orient Power-reserve
2005 Citizen Eco-drive

Congrats on your new purchase! I prefer the exp 1 for it simplicity yet classy elegance. Many might differ with this.
The exp II looks good for its sporty look.... just don't appeal to to me as i don't fancy the numbering on the bezel.

YES, congrats.
Just get the model that you like and don`t ask too much for others opinion.
Different model, different person, different opinion and different story.
At lease, you know what you want.
You will enjoy it,
but remember to sleep early.
When I bought my (16570), I can`t sleep for that whole night.
I think I am the latest member to join the Explorer family, my Explorer (214270) is just little 8 days old, bought at $7400 on 08/08/2013.
Let me introduce a little of my watch history, I owned an Date-Just Stainless Steel with Roman Numbers (Boy Size) back in 1999, bought at $4000 and sold at $3000 after 4 years.
I have long knew about Explorer (114270) but never show any interest to it until lately when I happened to surf the Rolex website. I fell in love immediately with the New Explorer. After leaning the differences between the old and new one, I decided to make my moved. I am extremely delighted to be a proud Rolex owner again.
Thanks for reading / Eric

Adding myself in, I'm new to SG ROC as well as to the Rolex world. Bought my first pre-owned 114270 this weekend (unfortunately can't post links for pic yet).
