  • Should I trade LNIB GMT2C for BNIB or LNIB Explorer 2(42mm)?

    Hi guys,

Nd yr advices.. Bought my GMT2C in Jan at THG Ion on impulse worrying abt the price hikes n owning my first Rollie.. Was considering btw the GMT2C n the X2(42mm) then but since X2 was not easily avail then thus went w the GMT2C instead..

Ever since bought have not even wore my GMT2C once yet w the stickers still on even though the bracelet is sized.. The more I look at the X2(42mm) black dial the more it seems smiling at me.. Hehe..

    My options r:
    1) sell my GMT2C on sg roc n purchase X2(42mm) w local ad (have to top up quite a bit)
    2) trade GMT2C on sg roc w X2(42mm)
    3) just keep my GMT2C

The best option in terms of cost would be definitely to keep the GMT2C.. But the thoughts of owning n beauty of the X2(42mm) black dial can't seems to get off my mind.. I can't afford to buy another X2(42mm) n keep my GMT2C..

Really nd some advices to make up my mind.. Thanks in advance guys!

Also do u guys think the GMT2C n X2(42mm) r in the same league? Worth to trade? Also was advice by local ad that GMT2C is not in the same league as X2.. Not too sure abt this though..

Trade a gmt2c with exp2 42mm with similar condition. If you miss your gmt2c, you can trade bac.

I have both the EXP II 42mm and GMTIIC. Both bought in early this year about one month apart.

I think both watches are distinguishable... referring back to one of my earlier post in sgroc:

          http://www.sg-roc.com/threads/6-Offi...752#post588752

However given your scenario that there can only be one Rolex for you at the moment, I think it make sense to keep your GMTIIC.

Keep the GMT-Master II. Reasons are GMT has better and more functions than Explorer. GMT can tell 3rd time zone which Explorer can't as Explorer bezel is fixed. Moreover GMT is more valuable due to ceramic bezel. IMO, I prefer to keep GMT and save for Explorer. Somehow I feel Explorer prices have soften over the last whole year. Well hope your collection grows!

some reasons to go for explorer 2 42mm instead of gmt2c
              1) brushed center links instead of PCL - PCL are alot more prone to hairline scratches
              2) larger dial
              3) gmt2c looks very much like sub c date
              4) white dial
              5) prefer metal bezel to ceramic

Thanks a lot guys, I gathered that most recommend me to keep my GMT2C n save up on X2(42mm)..

Also I think the brushed center link on the X2(42mm) is recommended for daily wear. PCL seems to be v easily scratch for daily usage..

I m still contemplating whether should I start using my GMT2C or keep it at unwore condition w stickers on to look out for possible higher trade value w X2(42mm).. Haha! Headache ah..

it sure has, as recently as 3 months ago, the exp2 42mm was asking premium 11-12k
now about 10k or slightly below 10k

Don't buy a watch if you can't afford it, for the sake of JUST "owning" one.... more so if your not a collector and still worried to scratch your watch..... who cares wear it, enjoy it, live with it.

I buy watches to wear, I wear all of them, yup scratch some of them... it's a part of the daily "wear it and risk it" ( no need to be scared )

                        1) Keep the GMTc2 for now as BNIB ( For higher sale value if you gonna offload next time.)
                        2) If step 1 is not possible, wear it in good health and enjoy your first rollie.
                        3) Save up for X2 in your next purchase because it's gonna be around for sometime before the next new model comes out that will take your sight away.

                        Cheers.
The time in life is perpertually moving forward while that in the watch is going in circles.

Thanks for yr advices bros! Much appreciated!

Bro Dfive -> Actually i m not so worried abt scratching the watch, just because i have not decided to offload or to keep my GMT2C BNIB (bracelet sized only but unwore) thus worrying the PCL might be scratch if i wear it n decided to trade it later..

I know what i will do, meanwhile i will see any similar condition BNIB X2(42mm) to trade with. If there is any good one comes by, i will trade it away.. If not, i will save up for the X2(42mm) for my nx purchase. hehe.

buy within your means and buy the best that you can afford
then wear them in good health and enjoy

yes i was like you too worrying, should i sell this to get another watch etc..
Verdict, have decide to keep the watch and i buy another watch if i like.
I will wear my watches, imo i think watches are meant to be worn and i am sure that why
you bought the watch in the first place.
And somehow even if you get bored with the GMT2C, you can still sell it later onwards or trade in.
