Here's my story:
Months back, i had the same deliberation. All along I like big watches, thus naturally, the Rolex that catches my attention is the Deep sea.
Since this is my first Rolex, I only wanted it to be a TT. Period.
Thus, only considering between the GMTII or the Sub (13).
My heart was swaying towards the GMT (people who like big watches, they usually like their watch with more presence).
Got a chance to see both watches side by side, and i had my sight set on the GMTII TT almost right away, with the bezel fully engraved with golden numbers along with the green 24hr hand, it just has got more presence then the Sub . Moreover, if, just if, am gonna get a 2nd Rolex, it would likely be the deep sea, thus I don't want to end up with 2 divers.
I left without buying any, as, i wanted to do an over night test.
After few days of deliberations, looking at many images and videos…
Slowly… my choice started to sway… towards the Sub instead…
2 mains reasons that sway me, 1st, the GMT looks more modern, more graphic ( i guess its because of the font type they used as the 24 hr markers on the bezel), and anything more graphic, will tend to look dated after sometime. 2ndly, which is the more important point, what if, this is gonna be my only Rolex? If this is gonna be my only Rolex, I would like it to be more timeless, more iconic, thus, naturally the Sub became the obvious choice.
But if down the road, am hooked to Rolexes, then, there's no stopping at a 2nd deep sea, and a 3rd GMT… esp now the new 2013 half blue is looking very sweet too.
Taking delivery of my 116613LN very soon.
Hope you make your mind and find what speaks to your heart most, soon.
