Was in the same boat when I was looking to acquire my first Rolex. Not knowing any better, went with the Submariner purely on aesthetics alone as I felt the GMT II's bezel and dial looked very busy. Now that I know the history and heritage of both, glad I made that choice!
Still, will be gunning for a 1675 some day.

tough choice here, but if i've to own/hav/choose only 1, then i'll go with GMT Master 2 cos it has both useful GMT function & sporty/dressy looks

brushed steel bracelet not so blingy and probably less prone to scuffs.

I think the GMT II is a very practical watch foor travellers, but in terms of looks, i prefer the sub bezel, which determines the overall look of the watch. Tho I like the GMT II green hand, and some might feel the sub is a bit 'boring & predictable', but that's the look that so many other watch makers out there have tried to copy/use. there's no better complement than having ppl copy you. the history of the sub made me incline towards it as well.
But overall, I would certainly prefer the sub, in addition to my love for the sea.
