If I can choose either one only, and That I like both models :
I would go for the 40 mm .
Reason : it's a discontinued model . The latest 42 mm will be in the
Showrooms for many years to come .

Anyway it's still a tough choice to make and either choice is not wrong.

I would go for the original 1655. Its classy and also very collect-able. The new explorer 2 is "premium price" at the moment. I would wait till things have settled and then buy one

If you can find an Explorer 2 and it looks good on you then just buy it!

I was at the Rolex store at Changi and asked if they had the explorer 2. They told me it was not on display because its was a "premium price product"

Personally I wouldn't expect this from an authorized rolex outlet...

Well, 42 mm does look great . But for me, I don't fancy Rolex super sizing their watches and I reckon 39-40mm are the golden size regardless what built you are , a 6 footer ect...I like the 40 mm way better and I appreciated the old sub.( Pre. 116610 ln )Looks than the current one . Maybe I am just bias .

personally, i prefer black for old one and white for new one. my next target is a DJ2, 41mm. i love big dials, but need not be as big as panerai.

My friend bought the 40mm ex2 for sgd7300+ in December 2011. Just before the 42mm hits the stores. I just got mine 2 days ago when I was in hong kong. Got it for sgd9600+. I did a check in sg and was offered between sgd10-13k.

I think you really need to go and try on the watches yourself to see which one speaks to you I picked the 42mm black dial but would have been just as happy with the 40mm white 16570. Didn't like the look of the 42mm white dial myself.
