  • Wat difference between explorer I (114270 vs 214270)?

    I happened to try the new Explorer 214270 when I was hunting for my Sub ND. Of all the watches in the ADs the Explorer would probably be my next purchase. Just wondered what the differences between old and new models are.

    From what I have gleaned:

    214270 - is bigger (39 vs 36mm), newer movement, 2nd hand is short(er) than some expected. EXPLORER in lower half. No lume? New glide lock bracelet.

    Did I miss anything. And is the 114270 lumed? Why did Rolex get rid of the lume on the new model, I would have thought its very functional to have it

    Any other features, pros & cons. Which do you prefer/own and why?

    Hardly a new movement its just the old one with the in-house escapement parts.

      The 114270 comes with 'lumed' indexes. The 214270 is lack of. Why?

      Well, ask ROLEX ..

        i think a better question might be the differences between a 14270 and a 114270... especially the lug hole positions!

          further digging suggests that the 214270 indexes are lumed. but light blue instead of green

            Differences between the 2 other than the case size;

            a. Movement - Calibre 3132 movement in 214270 with Parachrom hairspring with Breguet overcoil and Paraflex shock absorbers versus the 3000 and 3130 previously.

            b. Lume - No lume on 3,6,9 numerals on 214270, lume on index markers is a sexy chromalite blue versus green previously.

            c. Bracelet - The 214270 uses the Easylink Oyster bracelet (not the glidelock) found on current GMT & Daytona models.

            d. Dial - On the 114270 the word "Explorer" is found on the top half of the dial, for 214270 its in the bottom half. 114270 has a glossy black dial while the 214270 has a matte black dial.

            Handled both the 114270 and 214270, bought the 214270. Just putting on both models, seeing and feeling the bracelet, the 214270 wins hands down.
