  • Help with Rolex Daytona

    Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and would really appreciate your advice.

I was offered a white SS V-serie white daytona preowned for 12.5k SGD. This comes with all the paperwork.

Is this a reasonable deal? What would I be expected to pay for one brand new?

Also what is the difference between the V,G and alphanumeric series?

Thanks to all who help in advance.

i just bought a full box set V-series black dial daytona in mint condition for US$7,915 (i still have to pay for admin fees and custom duties) - i did not handle the watch and bought it without inspection.

but 12.5k SGD seems okay to me...!

I think the price is quite reasonable only if it is in good physical condition and watch originated from a local AD.

                      • Can I ask: what is the difference between local AD and overseas AD? Is this the equivalent of parallel imports for cars i.e. if anything is faulty, it is more difficult to seek help? I assume again that Rolex Centre will service all regardless of local/overseas AD.

The piece is question is in good condition and is from a local AD.

Lastly, what is this chapter ring?

Thanks again for all your expert help, advice and guidance.

                        • No difference. It is a personal preference.

Chapter ring refers to the engraving of "ROLEXROLEXROLEX" in the inner case of the dial.

if you have a valid warranty card, your watch will be warranted against defects by RSC internationally for the duration of its validity.

the local vs overseas AD thing might be a matter of price perception:

ie, if i were a tourist and bought a watch overseas, it might (might! not definite) be cheaper than buying it locally.

therefore, if i sold it in singapore, potential buyers may (may! not definite) feel it is not deserving of the same re-sale price when compared with a watch purchased from a singapore AD because of singapore's GST, etc.

as such, if two exact watches (one local AD, one overseas AD) in the same exact condition were priced the same, the singapore spirit in singaporeans may compel them to buy a local unit so as to feel better when it comes time to sell it down the road...

but this perception might be wrong because rolex watches are supposed to be priced similarly all over the world. the only way to get around it is with exchange rates and duty free shopping... which doesn't (usually) amount to a big discount when compared to singapore's prices.

to me - it doesn't matter which AD the watch comes from. as long as it's the real deal and i'm happy with the price (and its condition), i'll buy it.

watches are for fun, not as investments, so i'm okay selling it for less than what i paid for it.

in case trolls are about: THIS IS MY OPINION and i should be entitled to it.
