  • GMT IIc or Explorer II???

    Hi guys,

Been a lurker on this forum for quite some time.

Am looking to take the plunge and buy my first rolex by the end of the year.
Any comments on whether I should get the GMT IIc or Explorer II? (No, I can't afford both!)

I like the new blue mainspring movement of the GMT IIc but I also like the 'dress watch look' of the Explorer II.

Any comments with regards to looks and resale value are appreciated!

    Advice

    Hi and welcome .

If u've been seriously "lurking", u shld b able to answer those qns yrself. Eventually, it voices down to personal preference. Now, both r of very diff pricing. One's near/over $10k, and te other's ard $6-$7k range. So how to advise u? Ok, tatz one. Again, resale value would b obviously higher for te GMT IIc. Why? First, te demand; second, te movement; and third, its a newer ROLEX sports model.

On looks, I can only provide u my own, personal preference and i.e. GMT IIc .

    Cheers !

agree with above. You have to go and check out the watch that appeals to you most, buying on the pretext of resale value is not a good decision *imo*

higher and higher is only when buying brand new, but after factoring time value of money, you still losing, but you tan kua (earn wear)

resale of exp II esp the white dial has always been on the lower end. that being said, there are many on the mkt. same cannot be said for the ceramic due to its scarcity.

buy the one that tickles yr fancy and not the resale value. personally i prefer the white polar exp cos it looks more like a dress watch than one that's used to scale everest, then again, edmund hilary used exp I fyi.

if you buying for true speculative purposes, the GMTIIc will be great if you can get at list price, most AD are selling with premium

Go and try, wear and see which one you like more.

I would think EXPII is less "flashy", good for the days where you want to wear a rolex but don't want to get too much attention.

End of day, it's all personal preference.

                          Hi guys,
                          Thanks for all that advice.
My budget for this watch purchase is about 10k so I would like to buy one that is 'right'...(if there is such a thing as a right watch)
I would like to try both on, but since the GMTII is pretty rare, it is difficult to try it on.

One more question if I may...
Is it true that the explorer II uses the 3185 movement? The older movement for the GMT?
