  • Ss daytona (116520) vs tt daytona (116523)

    Hi

    Daytona newbie here.

i know the TT is more a bit expensive but seems that the SS is rarer and has waiting list.

    is this true? any reason?

      yes.

that is why i am confused.

shouldnt tt with gold cost much more than ss instead of the small premium?

is there some history that i am not aware of?

I was once like you; confused. Asked and spoke to people and realised it is not about the material cost in watches. It's mainly the demand for them. Or should I put it, demand for certain watch models. There was a recent discussion on how the GMT models are always priced lower than the Submariner models despite the former having more functions in a watch.

Let's not even compare gold against stainless steel (SS). Even the SS models differ in prices as such. Few years back when I was studying the (discon) Submariner (16610) and the (discon) Seadweller (16660), the former commanded a higher price in the sense that there was either no or little discount for the Submariner, while discount for the Seadweller (SD) could come up to 10% - 12% then. IIRC, the Seadweller had a much higher retail price of something like $8K+, while the Submariner was at $7,930. But because of the discount structure, it was less expensive to acquire a SD then, than the Submariner.

Specifications to specifications, do you think the SD is inferior to the Submariner? In fact, better right? Then why the price 'imbalance'? I'm only learning slowly through these years, and hope you do too.
