    Hi,

I am a newbie wanting to purchase my very first Rolex. Contemplating on the Submariner 16610 or Explorer 2 Black Dial. Which would be a better choice for a first timer? I am probably gng Tokyo soon and wish to buy it there, cos heard some discussion here that its cheaper over there. How true is that? How much should I actually be paying over there after conversion? Or anyone have a pre-own 16610 can PM me?

go and try at the dealers (new or preowned). Without much time, you will know which one you want.

The white Exp II was my first love, but the first rolex I bought was the GMT II. At that time was fighting between the Exp II and the GMT II. Didn't consider the Sub because it's about the same price as the Exp II and GMT II, and considering "best bang for the buck" decided on the GMT II because :-
      a. It has 100m water resistance, which is good enough, although I don't dive but I do know people using the GMT II to dive.
      b. It can tell 3 time zone compared to Exp II because of the rotating bezel.

However, recent years I was very much drawned to the TT Sub and bought one recently. The reason I buy it besides being attracted to it, was afraid that when the newer model comes out, it is beyond my means (just look at the GMT II....) also the newer model is larger compared to current which I felt is too big for my wrist.

Anyway, the important thing is buy what you like, because it will stick to your wrist....

Tokyo would be cheaper...but you must know how it works there la. Best to buy from a AD there.

No such thing as a better choice...buy what smiles at you.

How much you should pay there...should be lesser than s'pore. That's all I can advise.

Went Hour glass today. Was more inclined towards Rolex 14060M then the 16610. Likes the clean look of the dial. Anyway, wats the diff btw this 2 model other than the date huh? Seems 16610 re-sale value will be better? Was quoted $6327, good price?

No difference between the 2 models. Well resale for 16610 would be stronger because there is a higher demand.

$6327 for the 14060M is standard la. I feel. These days...the prices are quite standard...only for the high demand watches then the price might vary. Other than that..it's a ok price....

16610 comes with SEL....... and has a better fliplock mechanism......

                  actual size is minutely different........

movement is 3135 vs 3130......... fundamentally the same except for date complication....

                    Hi Guys,

Most probably I will be getting a new 14060M set from Korea AD. After some search, I saw that they have straps (leather etc.) for the Sub. Wonder where to get that? Maybe can change style after wearing for some time.

Think I misinterpreted. I mean I wish to get some aftermarket leather straps after I bought my 14060M. Where to get?

IMHO, personally the sports models by Rolex won't look good with leather...

Honestly bro, if you are buying from o'seas, do so with caution.. either you know the place well or have a local there to assist.

Even if you have a local there to assist, he/she needs to know about ROLEX well.. I can honestly tell you that there are fakes selling in Japan and Korea, so well made that its SO DAMN hard to identify.. a bro here was in M'sia and he saw that the fake even have the movement enscripted with the movement number when the shop owner was kind enough to remove the case back... The fakes got standard okay... dun play play...

At times, one need to wonder... does it make sense to save <$500 on a >$6,000 watch?? Is that savings that significant a risk to take? IF its a $500 savings for a $3,000 watch, it will be another ball game altogether..

Good luck.. I hope you make a wise decision.
