I wear rubber strap on my Polar Sport HRM as a watch most of the time. After one year, although I periodically wash it, still emits a kind of sweaty smell if you hold it close to your nose.

I then put a leather strap on my Rolex Datejust, although no smell, I kind of worry that the sweat will absopted by the leather.

Now I wear a Sub with steel bracelet. I don't know the effect of sweat on steel bracelet yet, but at least I can wash it every time I return home.

I am thinking of getting the Rubber B strap or NATO strap. However, I still think the Rubber B strap is too expensive, and I never came across a NATO strap before.

Back to the Original Post - how does an Explorer II looks on Nato:

The GMT hand shows the UK time.
Nato straps are easily available locally in Spore, and there is a wide selection too, from the shops.

With these straps, the wearer doesn't have to worry about scratches - very versatile use indeed.

                      Hi kenn18,

I was just wondering if you needed to install a separate set of spring bars in order to fit the NATO strap.

I have the same watch and am also looking to do the same, but I'm not sure how to do it. I have another watch that when you take out the bracelet from the watch, the 1st (largest) link of the bracelet stays on the lugs. Is this the case with the 42mm Explorer?

Also, looking at the slight gaps, I assume you bought 20mm straps instead of 22mm? I know 21mm ones (which is the correct lug width) are next to impossible to find.

                      Thanks.

No.. the original spring bars. Truth is, I took the Explorer 2 to RSC and asked them to remove the SS bracelet for me, and leave the spring bars attached. I have the Bergeon spring bar tool that can do the job DIY, but that would risk scratching the caseback. They did it for me in less than 10 minutes, FOC. Even gave a good wipe on the watch head and bracelet before returning them to me, nicely wrapped in a Rolex cleaning cloth, also FOC. Legendary service. Not a good idea to use non-original spring bars, unless you know what you are doing!

The 22mm Nato fits securely on the 21mm lug-width, I have also used a 20mm Nato, no problem.

This photo shows the Explorer 2 on 20mm Nato, night shot.

                            Thanks Kenn!

                            That helps a lot.

I'll probably invest in one of those double forked tweezer type spring bar tools as I would like to wear the bracelet quite often too.

Also decided to have a strap maker custom make a few leather NATOs for me in the right size.

                            Thanks again!

Any physical shop in Singapore carries good variety of quality straps? Prefer to see the actual thing instead of online shops...
