in my opinion, servicing of the watch is very important, especially an older piece. As the servicing history of the watch is unknown, its best to get the movement checked. Who knows the watch had not been serviced since day one. The lubricant may have already dried up and the gasket may have hardened due to aging...
There are other options (cheaper) instead of going to tong centre. Can always send to some of the watch shops (well-known) for servicing. There is one in lucky plaza, one in chinatown and one at Great Eastern Building...
