  • The 5-years rule of servicing Rolex

    Hi all,

Rolex suggested all owners to service their watches at least once in 5 years... do you agree to this, or have other opinions?

Or anybody will go with the saying: "if it ain't broken, don't fix it"...

At least once every 5 years (or even more)
    42.86%
    6

I service my car every 10000km because I drive it everyday. I service my watch only when its power reserve has shortened or stopped. The reason is I don't wear my one watch everyday and I don't see the need to service a watch which I don't wear it often in that 5 years...

i don have that much money to buy many many watch. so i wear my gmtiic almost everyday.

hence, safer to send it for service at least once every 5 years. Small price to pay for prevention.
I dont need another watch, I dont need another watch, I dont need another watch, I dont need another watch.........

        It's a personal preference.

I don't see myself owning 1 rollie in time to come , Service in time of need only .

ex-rolex technician say service when broken.

for me, i suggest service once every 4-6 years. this is because at least you know the watch movement is kept in good working condition.

if you were to service only when broken, you might feel the pinch. why? you have to fix that other part because the part you need to service may affect its usage. similiar to that of replace hose/pipes in cars. one hose/pipe got problem, you may need to replace some of the other parts because pressure may cause damage to other 'brittle' parts.

Hmm... as we now service for Sub is around $500 right? when u say for prevention, wad is the worst case u referring to? i mean, if we need to change some part of the watch, any idea wad is the max cost of it? thx

*if the max cost is like $1000 then IMO better wait till its broken... which might take a long time, hehe

true true... prevention is better than cure... but my experience owning my car is that even how well-maintain my car is, servicing, oil change, check this check that, there is still some parts here or some parts there spoil and need to be replaced.... very sianz... but my personally view is if it is going to spoil, it will spoil....

Imagine own one vintage 6694. Cost about $1,500. If go Rolex for servicing, Rolex gives all kinds of quotation and charge more than $1,000. Thereafter, If follow 5 year rule, every 5 years $500. Boh hua le. Better strategy wait until spoilt? I ever sent watch once every 15 years, still $500. So may be this better. strategy: once every 12-15 years. Also depend, whether every use. Most pp keep Rolex in safe. every 15 years also ok lah.

Juz got a yachtmaster over the weekend, sent in for verification and they suggested to service it. It a Z series '07 watch, side sticker still intact, was quoted 280. Since save on the verification fees, so juz let them go ahead.
