For watch collection, you can judge its selling price based on what kind of material used... gold is only US$900 per oz... so why do we have to pay S$20000 premium for the Gold daytona over the SS version? If it is set with diamonds, worst.... how much are those small diamonds? why do we have to pay so much more for those diamonds?

some like ss and some like tt, that's a given for every rolex model that comes in ss and tt. but one thing we know -- gold is more valuable than ss. i like the ss too but i just can't see myself paying more for something that is less valuable intrinsically.

Tomasulu happen to be a foreigner? I heard from the Sales managers foreigners typically dont believe in paying above recommend retail price. So when they walk it and ask abt the price, the answer is the RRP, but no stock when there is a piece in the drawer. I guess if i m selling it, i sell to a higher bidder too.

Sometimes when u like something so much i guess u dont mind paying abit more to get it(especially something u really want). I guess most of us here feel that way ba. Its probably because of culture differences SS ROCKS

            Tomasu bro...are you SF?
Stick to Pam lah. Where incidentally SS also more popular than gold ones.
My opinion, prefer the look of WG and SS over TT. Can't see paying premier for both WG and TT and won't get the TT. So, like you, also hoping for SS prices to be more reasonable.

Well actually, I prefer the GMT and Subs to the Daytona cos I am not a chrono fan and always find the watch a little cluttered.

            Keep hunting.

nobody likes to pay above rrp... but yeah i go one step further, i won't do it on principle. see, rolex can easily remedy the disparity in demand and supply but they choose not to do so. i don't want to be a part of someone's wrapped sense of what's considered good marketing.

no offense to those who did. it is your money and you get to spend it however you like.

              sorry what's sf?

if we are honest about it, rolex doesn't make the best looking watches. however their designs are very distinctive and that's what i like about them. if you come across a rolex, you know it is either a rolex or a replica, it can't be anything else. if i don't get the daytona, i want a pre-owned royal oak.

Sorry bro. Think I got the wrong person. My friend's name is SF and he often goes with the nick Tomasu. If you are not into GTI then my mistake.
Anyway, AP is a good buy but sadly, I just sold mine.

in prespective, its something like this

You cannot choose the salary your boss pays you. But you can choose wheather you wanna work for your boss. You can feel unfair abt the pay and discuss abt it, but nothing changes. Market determines it

The very fact that there is a thread abt this shows the love and hate relationship on THE SS DAYTONA. You love it, but u hate paying dearly for it

I love my 116520, in fact I don't hate paying dearly for it... I wish I paid even more for it as the price reflects the demand for the watch... If I buy a watch that comes with huge discount and always available, it doesn't interest me.. Maybe it is human nature, the harder to get one, the more you cherish it....

Because the SS Daytona is way cooler than the TT.
                          The TT is so common.
The scarcity of the SS is why the ADs are able to charge a premium, and why people are willing to pay the extra for it.

EXCLUSIVITY - we pay for this, for an SS Daytona. I've been in the waiting list from 2000- 2008 of Mappin & Webb in London's Heathrow but to no avail hahahaha. Then I chanced upon a bnew one displayed at a Jakarta AD in Feb of 2009 waiting for me!

Whenever I read about SS Daytona's "exclusivity", I always chuckle. Every watch shop I go to, they have at least one or two SS Daytonas on display. If this is call scarce or exclusive, then I clearly do not know the meaning of these words. Rolex is a watch manufacturer.... for sure it is their objective to produce qualities to meet demand... and people actually believe that over the years, Rolex made no adjustments to production qualities?? I believe this is a myth, encouraged by dealers so that they can charge premium prices. Buy the SS Daytona if you like it, certainly. But do not delude yourself to believe that you are wearing something that is rare. If I am a betting man, I will bet that SS Daytonas are the most common among all Daytonas.
