I already have the original black, not sure if I can get another one just for the dial variants.
You go ahead Bro, tell me when you got one. We meet up for coffee and compare the unique differences.
Steady Bo?

Need a real looking diver, get the black dial. Want something to celebrate mankind achievement, get the D-Blue dial. Rolex got both covered.
And in my opinion, if the Dssd have not been popular to some due to its size and thickness, it will never be an option to them even with the newer intriguing dial.
The one that I thought would effect the original Dssd was the introduction of the SdC (Sea Dweller 4000 Ceramic). The "upgrades" and improvements does reflect a "giant killer" attributes, preparing to see many Dssd owners jumping boats, trading off their current Dssd to the SdC, but it isn't so. Both seems to have a strong following for themselves.
And Rolex played it well. Introducing the new D-Blue Dssd. The first time they did such launch out of the norm Basel fair and honoring a great real life achievement by a well known man (though they have a small partnership in it) and get the fans excited with the Dssd again with just a small minor cosmetic change. All these contribute to the hype and excitement.
Just imagine if Rolex announced a launch of a new dial variant for their Datejust, does anyone even bother?
