I remember in those days where people change the dial or the bezel on their rolex boy or king. But far would you go today in modifying them. I've seen some PVD their original daytona which to me is too extreme. I recently swap my daytona braclet to leather. I like the look so much now I'm thinking of getting a sub to swap rubber B...

I'd never extremely mod my rolex or any rolex watch dude... maybe might only slightly mod like changing ghe bracelet to strap like you and swap the original rolex caseback to a sapphire crystal see through caseback to admire the rolex movement.. that's all bro.. but i'd never go extreme like pvd or changing the dial to make a franken rolex...HOME THEATERPHILE

one of my favourite modified watch was a 16800 matte dial + handset in a 16610... so changing/swapping dials and hands are acceptable for me.“Watches, no matter how much they cost, are better at telling time than making a person happy.†- Thomas J. Stanley

hands don't break easily. any watchmaker that damages a normal set of hands (or dial) trying to remove them should probably not be in the business.
the CP "hole" on the hands can, over time with regular refits, go out of shape and the hands won't move properly. this is not common unless you're really refitting them very regularly. under normal circumstances this doesn't happen.
what you do with your watch is entirely your call - i'm perfectly okay if people think i wear a fake watch as i'm personally happy with my mods.
i even have aftermarket crystal on some of my watches...!“Watches, no matter how much they cost, are better at telling time than making a person happy.†- Thomas J. Stanley

The one of a kind custom mod dial on my 16610 bears my chinese name in red on the 9 oclock marker area.
The lume on the second hand is also painted red.
Its the first Rolex which i bought 16 years ago.
Something i will never sell.
Am thinking of engraving my name on the caseback as well but dont know where good to go for that.

It's really up to the individual.
For my daytona, I have replaced the original crystal with a aftermarket 'dome' piece, replaced the caseback with a aftermarket display case and polished the centre links of the bracelet so that it's all matt. I cannot be happier!
Of course, if I decide to sell, I probably have to put it back to its original condition...."Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence,

they have engraved many watches of mine. i can't remember the shop's name but they are the only store that does trophies and plates, etc, in that building. tiffany & co sends jewelry to them.
btw... if you have sensitive skin, you may want to skip caseback engraving.“Watches, no matter how much they cost, are better at telling time than making a person happy.†- Thomas J. Stanley

I dont hv sensitive skin but do you mean that by engraving it may expose certain metal qualities which irritate the skin? Alamak now you got me slightly jittered....

if you want to smoothen the edges out (not remove the words), the caseback will probably have to be refinished after that.“Watches, no matter how much they cost, are better at telling time than making a person happy.†- Thomas J. Stanley
