I think the regular rolex models will be an inflation hedge at best. Don't think will outpace inflation. If price of the sub rises four fold for example, the price of our chicken rice, cinema tickets etc will probably rise by that same %

I bought my Explorer 2 white from local AD in 1999 for $6500. Now 14 years later even the replacement larger dial Explorer 2 white is less than $10k new. The second hand similar to mine Explorer 2 which can hardly fetch the same $6500 I have paid. So for sub, I really doubt it will be worth much 20 years from now even though its a popular choice. Unless it's a red sub or a rare model.

An early 1980s sub eg 1680 costs around between $800 - $1100. Now local AD is selling around 10k and the early sub eg 1680 can match or even higher than the new sub price if condition is mint with paper , box..,,u do the maths... I have a towkay friend who bought and keep at least 20-30 sets of 1680 / 1675 in his safe ..all are NOS ...he was joking to me that those days he buy in bulk as gift to bribe those poeple to get construction projects. Never Even expected the prices can go up 10 times..he is richer right now
