Left is 18038 Right is 18238
The Day and Date Disc came in 3 fonts for the 18038 and your is the thicker version nice in my view.
The font for your 18238 is the standard type.
Note the day and date disc of the 2 movements are not interchangeable.

My DD1803 has the fonts type on your right pic...
By the way, hijack your thread abit...
Is it okay to rotate the watch hands backward while adjusting the day and date? Today is 1July n yesterday was 30June...so need adjust n hope I didn't damage the 1556 engine inside the DD...
In addition, can hear the ticking sounds very loudly...is this normal?
Any possible assistance on how to adjust the day date speedily? Any precaution for this model of watch...like should not chg date or day between 8pm-2am etc...thanks much for sharing!
no scare lah. for 1556 non QS, adjust the date after you fix the day, by manually turning the hour hands between 8oclock and 4 o clcok. hav fun winding your DD, thats the thrills of vintages!
one observation i have made was the more rounds you manually wind to adjust the date, the tighter the winding became... i cant exlplain why... happened to 1556, 1560 and 1570 movements leh.. don't know why...

Yes, tighter the more winds...don't know why...will try read up about it n hope to share with u back here...any master/sifu okay to share?
My understanding is that extra winding will not damage the movement as there is something like a pressure relieve valve in there to release the pressure created by the extra windings...read about it somewhere...

Main spring gets tighter.
I rather not do it too much.
Just maybe 10 - 15 rotations then put on the watch and let the pedulum do the job.

Thanks guys. I dont mean winding to power up but winding to adjust time. If I wind many rounds to adjust the time and date for nin quick set, the winding g err s very stiff.
Does anyone has similar experience n expknatiin?

So far dont have similar experience.
on my old daydate 1803-8 i recall using the 1 to 8 reverse method to adjust the date.
Didnt feel any tightening of gears
I suspect the dirt and oil has built up so winding to adjust time in one single clockwise direction could be "sweeping" it all up and thus make it feel a bit stiffer.
also happened to my newly servced DJ. i'm not sure if the winding to reset dates via winding of hands will also wind up the power reserves not, thus the tightness.

It shouldnt, becos its working diff gears on different crown levels.
I do believe it could be an issue with oil viscosity, thats base purely on my logical understanding of movements or parts in any machine.
