dysfunctional DJ

my dad has a dysfunctional dj and told me that it'll be mine if i could fix it.
its been untouched for a couple of years. did some research and apparently 'overwinding' problems do not exist. can anybody advise me on this? i.e. possible causes and cost for repairing, as well as location of shops to go to.
