  • Questions on rolex - Noob!

    hi,

    newbie here. Planning to get my first rolex for myself as a present! Have been reading up all the materials in this forum and i'm wondering what is rolex with "no pinhole"??? Quite a number of the messages contained - "Rolex with no pinhole". What exactly is pinhole? Any pics to show? many thanks!

    Secondly, what is the difference between date, datejust and no-date rolex? Apart from the fact of the comestics such as the band, size, is there a difference - ex: the water-resistance level or etc?

    I'm planning to get this particular rolex in end august -

    http://www.rolex.com/en/collection/r...l=M115234-0011

    Any idea on the damage??

    Many thanks and cheers!

    pin hole is where the bracelet is like this
    http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p...n/DSCF0356.jpg

    no pinhole is the lack of the holes, thus giving a smooth finish

    date = 34mm
    datejust = 36mm
    daydate = display day AND date and comes in 36mm.

    water resistance is same and no difference on dress models.

          I think the pinhole and size difference part part seiko.citizen beat me to it already.

          I shall help you with the 1 you are looking at. My personal opinion is that,the Date commands one of the worst resale value among all the Rolex models.

          IF you really want,you might have to order from the AD because usually they don't carry much stock for Date models. I think cost would be approx 8k.

          My recommendation is the Stainless Steel Datejust with diamond dial...

            am i correct to say date is like boy size whereas datejust more towards mid size?

            tentatively, dial and markers, are they referring to the same thing?

              Ok...let me explain

              Date = 34 mm
              Midsize Datejust = 31mm
              Men's size Datejust = 36mm

              Hope it helps...

              Dial is the face...marker is the MARKER! Haha...markers are the like diamonds,roman numerals,stick markers,arabic numerals.

                isn't 18k or diamonds regards as costy elements?
                why compare to some models of rolex, their price could not match.
                is it due to the supply and demand?

                  hi darkangel,

                  many thanks for the explanation. I'm thinking of date cos' my wrist is too thin and i have been wearing boy size watches all along. Thus was thinking that perhaps rolex date will be a good choice.

                  Nonetheless, many thanks for the information. Should be getting one in mid august. Either a 115234 or a plain 116200. Anyone has idea on how much a 116200 with juliee braclet will cost?

                  Cheers

                    hmmm....18k is the material of the watch. example, 18k gold.

                    the diamonds are the markers on the dial. The normal rolex uses just roman or arabic symbols like 1, 2 or I, II. But there are some that uses diamonds instead. More exp of course.

                    Not an issue with DD or SS.

                      Yes in the preowned market it's more of supply and demand. Here's an example

                      SS Datejust and TT Datejust cost the same in the preowned market,supposing both are similar in terms of condition,age,box and papers.

                      While for brand new..the TT costs more.

                      I see. Btw it's 116234 haha...

                      Anyway 116200 costs about 6k+ after discount. Comes ONLY in oyster bracelet.

                          I think it's $7,444 list price now for a 116200 (SS).

                              went to Hour Glass at MW, was quoted 20% off at 5900 for a normal datejust, with the option of using credit card or cash. The salesman is a friend of my sis so it's a pretty good deal. But i'm holding out...trying for the pre-owned option.

                              Cheers
