  • 50 Years Old ( Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day-Date )

This watch is 50 years old, Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day Date,Swiss certified chronometer. Specially ordered, designed and crafted from solid block of yellow gold with special made solid bracelet. Serial number is 2901807. This Rolex watch was from the late Sultan Brunei and was given to my late grandfather. The bad thing is that i only have the watch and extra bracelet and no box or certificates.

Can someone please tell me how much is the watch worth now?
    Need somebody to help me

Is there any special markings or any of that sort that says it's a gift from the sultan?

Well there wasnt any markings stated that it was from a sultan, just a gift cause Sultans usually give his gifts when someone goes to the palace for a meeting. I guess the serial number will tell that its from him ? no ? Well this is the pics since i blewed the 1st one

Well...my estimate that it's around 12k-14k...depending on the full set and everything.

Condition wise is not very good, but it's definitely a keeper for you lucky guy! I ever did contemplate on selling my grandfather's watch because it just didn't suit my age, but good thing I decided not to..if not I would have regretted.

The condition is still ok, need minor changes like a small part of the bracelet which i have extra and the top part of the watch. Plus i look at the list prices of the rolex oyster perpetual daydate is from 30k - 300k. And this watch is 50 years old and kinda vintage, wont the price be higher then 14k?.

Brand new price cannot be compared to preowned price. 2 different markets

have to agree with DA on the price.

Those 1970s Day date head only selling around $6K.

yours is older and comes with bracelet so max around $12K to $14K cos the only buyers will be vintage day date collectors like me

Hmmm ok ok, makes sense. Thank you for the opinion Ian. I guess keeping the watch is a BETTER IDEA after all. This doesnt look good at all to sell the watch sigh.

                        slightly old thread:

jazz the watch up by putting it on a strap instead of the bracelet. it will look more contemporary. get one with a vintage taper (buckle width 14-16mm instead of 18mm). a custom made gator will beat a rolex strap anyday.

you'll be surprised how discrete and nice such a combo is on your wrist.

you'll probably get more money selling the bracelet as scrap gold, and in the current economic climate, the bracelet is worth keeping as an "investment".
