Both are double quickset so to me the same engine,you can set the day and date in a matter of seconds can't get better than that.

for the same reasons you mentioned about prices, I bought myself a 18238 with diamonds and a 18038 this year and I am very happy with both!

118238 has a slightly larger case...bracelet are both solid end links..no diff. Newer piece somehow looks nicer

18238 with no diamonds can be low of 11.5K+- (not so good condition) to 13K + very good condition.

18238 with diamonds 13K++ (not so good condition) to 15K+ (VGC), some shops asking $16K+

the range /price difference can more than $2K. I go for only the VGC when I buy second hand, since you already spend so much might as well pay a bit more for one with no visible flaws.

most important is to ensure the bracelet is not loose and watch condition good.

I was told the newer 118238 has significantly more gold than the older 18238.
Combined with a higher price of gold, the list price today for an equiv 118238 vs older 18238 is about 50% higher, after also adjusting for inflation.

if I were to buy a 118....series I will go for the Rose Gold model because it is almost impossible to find a 18... series in Rose gold.
