Rolex appreciate in value

Hi all,

I seen some posts saying that the watch appreciate in value. Any guide on this? like is it only applicable to unused set? Sorry i new to watches investment.

If you are getting watches as investment...I think it has the best returns in terms of $$.

While over the years the prices do go up, but gradually, you are looking at a 10 year estimate breakeven time for sports model should you buy brand new now.

Generally true about appreciation in value but i feel this is largely due to inflation more than anything else unless it's a rarity... the breakeven point for preowned will be shorter than brand new obviously.

Yap, if you are looking at watches as an investment tools, the classics and vintages are the ones that you will breakeven faster and with higher margins. Some of the BNIBs are still "losing" money after a long while, especially when bought during the initial launch craze.

Prices of new Rolex models tend to (not all though) be commanding a premium when first launch but prices come down around 3-6 months down the road. Buying them when they have just launched them are almost guaranteed suicidal actions (there are exception to this rule though) that will take more than 10 years to breakeven. Some likely will never though, e.g the Milgauss Green anniversary model. I have head of folks paying SGD12-13k for it when first launch! Crazy as it may sound but true... those bought at this price will take a long long time to even breakeven.. let alone earn....

Rolex will only appreciate for AD, not for end user but the most important thing is to buy it, wear it and enjoy it .. Appreciate or depreciate will have to worry later

So what is a proper watch? Will a Swatch occasionally give you the wrong time?

All watches are proper - some are just more expensive than others. Is a Patek is more "proper" than a Rolex? Likewise a Rolex compared to a $50 Casio? The Casio with its quartz movement would probably be as accurate (if not more than) one with an automatic movement...

bear in mind that if you were to go for vintage investment. a lot of research works has to be done compared to the modern models. as a lot of factors are considered in determining the value, if you are not careful you will make a marginal loss instead
