I know a Rolex collector from the US who has 2 dozen Rollies from the 1940s (World War 2 era) to the 1960s and all are in working condition.
My favorite Rose Gold Day Date from 1960s (50 years old) is still running perfectly so I think these watches may last "perpetually".My 18K Gold Day Date "President" Collection:
1) WG DIA 18239
2) YG DIA 18238
3) WG 18239
4) YG 18238
5) YG 18248G Bark
6) WG DIA 18039
7) WG 18039
8) YG 18038
9) Tridor DIA 18039B
10) YG DIA 18078 Bark
11) RG 1803 (Mint V.Rare)
12) WG 1803
13) YG 1803
50th Anniversary Collection:
1)GMT II 116718 18K
2)Sub 16610LV Mk1 x 4pcs ( 3F + 1 Y!)
Others
1)Daytona RG 116505 18K
2)D15037 14k
3)DJ16238 18K

So servicing is just to make the watch super accurate?
That being said, if i dun mind the watch go 5-10 min slower every few months or years, i can just dun service it?
I buy watch cus its pretty, i like it n for symbol, not particular about movement etc

And to answer your question, Yes, I have a GMT Master that still runs reasonably accurately even though it hasn't been serviced for about 22 years, but it's well-kept..Last edited by kenn18; 05-02-13, 10:53 AM.

I think it may last a lifetime with proper care..Only a Rolex will do for me..a tradition passed down from my father and his father..
I have a love-hate relationship with rolex, i hate the prices but love the pieces..
Proud owner of a Rolex Explorer II 216570 polar since 27/2/13..okay..not anymore

Second that!

The next piece....

I have a GMT master 2 (pepsi) bot in 1999 and I have been wearing it daily as it was my only watch till this year. till now it has kept time really well. I recently bought the new explorer 2 as I am convinced of the brand's quality and reliability. I bought a new watch cos I want to keep my gmt master 2 for posterity. I am betting my money that this explorer 2 will be as good, as hardy.
