    Basically they just do not want people to track their sales of a certain model and also in case they run out of serial numbers...

      Maybe somday, someone could decipher those numbers. Maybe they are not random and could contain more info of the watch than we think. But then like darkangel mention, all are speculations until proven otherwise.

        alphanumeric came first followed by G series.

        both series are still in production.

        as such, after G will go back to alphanumeric, no one knows yet except rolex

          I am guessing this helps to hide the manufacturing date, so that the resale market remains buoyant. This adds to the allure of Rolex watches!
